                   In the next weeks a new platform to communicate the activities of  the                                  Commission C.C1 will be activated.

               This Web site will continue only as part of the history of the past three years                   of the C46.

Commission 46 is a Commission within Division C  of the IAU. This Commission seeks to further the development and improvement of astronomical education at all levels throughout the world through various projects initiated, maintained, and to be developed by the Commission and by disseminating information concerning astronomy education.

If you are a member of the IAU, and have an interest in astronomy education, you should join Commission 46 by emailing the C46 President Jean-Pierre de Greve at jpdgreve@vub.ac.be.  We present on this website the various activities (Program Groups, PGs) that you could become involved in.

NEW COMM. 46 WG:

THE IAU DICTIONARY OF ASTRONOMICAL CONCEPTS

With pleasure we announce the creation of a new WG. As is remarked by the members of the group, Mohammad Heydari-Malayeri and Françoise Combes:

“There is a need for a reliable and comprehensive reference source providing the definitions of all the concepts, from the oldest to the newest, used in astronomy and astrophysics”.

INTERNATIONAL YEAR  OF LIGHT 2015

Official logo of the International Year of Light 2015 (vertical).The International Astronomical Union(IAU) Executive Committee Working Group on the International Year of Light (IYL) solicits your proposals for astronomy programs in support of IYL themes. The IYL was initiated by the European Physical Society with strong support from the Optics and Photonics industries. It has received the endorsement of UNESCO and the UN (as was the case for the International Year of Astronomy, IYA2009), with events being planned throughout 2015. The astronomy community has been invited to participate through the IAU with a highlighted topic ‘Cosmic Light’; the IAU has authority to endorse astronomy-related programs as official components of the IYL. WOMEN HOLD UP HALF OF HEAVEN

Women-in-Astronomy

  Women have had an important role in the development of Astronomy.  We can remember Hypatia, Joselyn Bell, Cecilia Payne, Annie Cannon, Henrietta Leavitt of course, but  many other astronomers not as recognized have contributed to the  advance of the discipline.
This space, which will grow with contributions from everyone, begins with some recent contributions of colleagues who speak of not very distant in time events and sharing problems that should not exist in the XXI Century, relating to women working in science, but who also have great achievements.

We share here some contributions on the subject:
